Cele przedmiotu
1. The students obtain a basic knowledge about the history of Belgium and the Netherlands
2. The students can situate the history of Belgium and the Netherlands in the frame of the world history
3. Historical facts can be connected with the cultural heritage of the Low Countries
Wymagania wstępne
1. Basic knowledge of general history level lyceum
2. Basic knowledge of the Dutch language (lectures are provided in Dutch)
3. Understanding the place of history within the context of human sciences

Nota Bene: A maximum of 2 absences during the course is allowed.
Nota Bene 2: Every second week will be online according to the scheme published on the website of the Chair. The courses will be in MS Zoom. The students are obliged to have their webcams functioning.

KNOWLEDGE
W_01 The student has basic knowledge of the place and meaning of the subject History of the Netherlands in relation to other subjects of Dutch Philology
W_02 The student has a thorough overview of the most important facts, events and people in the history of the Netherlands.

SKILLS
U_01 The student is able to search, analyze, evaluate, select and use information related to the history of the Netherlands;
U_02 The student knows how to independently acquire knowledge and develop research skills in the history of Dutch-speaking countries and detects simple relationships between social and cultural processes and literature and language changes.

Social Competences
K_01. The student is aware of the importance of Dutch history in European and world culture.
Metody dydaktyczne
Written sources, computer, iconographic sources (beamer projection), historical films.
The language of instruction is Dutch!!!
During the course 3 written tests will be given, making part of the general mark.

The following topics are covered during the fall semester:
1. the Republic of the Seven United Provinces at the height of its power
2. the Year of Catastrophe (1672) and the Third Anglo-Dutch Naval War
3. the Wars of Succession and the state of the South Netherlands
4 The French period
5. the United Kingdom of the Netherlands
6 The Belgian Rising, King William II and King Leopold I
7 The Industrial Revolution
8. Belgium under Leopold II
9. the Netherlands Indies
10. the First World War
11. the inter-war period
12. Second World War
13 Reconstruction
14 Decolonisation and the formation of modern society
15. the most recent period
Kryteria oceny i sposoby weryfikacji zakładanych efektów kształcenia
Knowledge criteria:
for grade 2: The student has no basic knowledge of the history of the Netherlands and Belgium; for grade 3: The student has a general knowledge of the history of the Netherlands and Belgium; for grade 4: The student has a structured knowledge of the history of the Netherlands and Belgium; for grade 5: The student has a complete knowledge of the history of the Netherlands and Belgium.

Skills criteria:
for grade 2: The student is unable to demonstrate the ability to analyse the history of the Netherlands and Belgium. Lack of attendance in class or an excessive number of unexcused absences (more than 2 times in a semester); for grade 3: The student has the basic ability to analyse the history of the Netherlands and Belgium, is able to associate them with cultural facts and to situate them in the European and world context; for grade 4: The student has the skills listed in the previous column to a good degree; for grade 5: The student demonstrates above-average skills in the scope described at grade (4).

Criteria of social competence:
for grade 2: The student is not familiar with the basics of continuous self-education and solving problems independently; for grade 3: The student has basic competences described in the part "learning outcomes - competences"; for grade 4: The student has the above-mentioned competences to a satisfactory degree; for grade 5: The student has the above-mentioned competences to an above-average degree, and in particular he demonstrates above-average independence in applying them.

Note: A maximum of 2 absences are allowed during the course !!!
