Kamila Tomaka completed her secondary education at III Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Marynarki Wojennej RP with bilingual classes in Gdynia. She received her academic degrees (Classical Philology, Dutch Philology) at John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (Poland), Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands) and Catholic University Leuven (Belgium).
She accomplished the Doctoral Programme in Linguistics available in the International Doctoral School for the Humanities and Social Sciences in Leuven under the set of regulations of a joint doctoral programme between the Catholic University of Leuven and John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.
In 2020 she successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled The Status and Functions of the Ancient Greek particle δή in the Dialogues of Plato, with an Analysis of its Translation into Dutch and Polish with honor (magna cum laude) and thus earned a PhD degree in Linguistics from the Catholic University of Leuven and John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.
The goal of her PhD dissertation was to make the reader conscious of the importance of studying particles in a dead language, of the difficulty of translating particles from one language to another, and of the (universal) functional relevance of particles for the nuanced expression of thoughts and feelings.
Her main research interest lies in the field of ancient Greek linguistic thought, classification and functional description of Dutch particles, functional interpretation of Dutch particles in the translation of source texts from Dutch into Polish.
Currently she teaches Practical Education of Dutch Language (Lexicology and Listening Exercises), Classical Tradition in the Low Countries and History of Dutch Language.
